Don & Meredith Halcomb
continued from our Team page
and receiving an Economics degree from Ohio Wesleyan University, I lived and worked in California and New York City before discovering where I truly belonged — on a family farm in Schochoh, Kentucky!
Don and I eagerly began our life and farming career together in 1976. Daily life on the farm certainly presented its struggles and hard times — learning to manage and even survive through droughts, floods, economic downturns, etc. But, life on the farm is also a great teacher of perseverance, patience, and the tremendous and necessary value of families and neighbors sticking together and helping one another.
Over the years, we grew with the farming industry and brought our business into the computer age, taking advantage of all the state-of-the-art knowledge, technology, and equipment of our times.
We both loved travel and adventure, and made these a priority in our lives and for our family -- always centered around agriculture, a truly fascinating industry!
We raised two sons, Sam and John, and had the great joy of seeing them grow up on the farm and develop the same deep love for and commitment to caring for and nurturing the land.
Don passed away in January 2019, but knew that his energy and passion for the land and family business was alive and thriving in both Sam and John and their dedicated and loving wives, Stephanie and Sarah.
Under their combined leadership, the business has made great progress and continues to grow in new and exciting ways!!
I now have the extreme pleasure of watching five energetic grandchildren, Everett 11, Sydney and Lizzie 8, George 6, and Kate 4 — wide eyed and full of curiosity and excitement, as they begin to find their places in the world.
