Don & Meredith Halcomb
(as told by Meredith)
With family roots on this farm reaching back to the mid-1800s, Don came into this world in 1952 — the 5th ‘traceable’ generation farmer, son of Hazel and Will Frank Halcomb, grandson of Faulconer and Ruth Halcomb.
From his very earliest memories, Don, with boundless energy and enthusiasm, participated in everything happening on the farm, from picking up rocks in the fields, caring for pigs and cows, to planting, harvesting, and driving anything with a steering wheel. He loved the land and everything about it. His footprint was everywhere!
To make the most of his intended career, he left the farm in 1971 for Purdue University, returning in 1975 - Agriculture degree in hand, and exciting international travels under his belt.

John & Sarah Halcomb
John Halcomb grew up working alongside his family on Walnut Grove Farms, which at that time was largely focused on grain and hog production. Although he and his brother Sam were involved in all aspects of the business, from the cropping side of things to the family-owned feed mill, John especially remembers spending a lot of time with the hog operation in his younger years.
While obtaining an Agricultural Economics degree from the University of Missouri, John also worked for the Food and Agricultural Policy Research Institute at UM. There he helped build models and collect data to help with USDA market forecasting. John’s work with FAPRI opened read more
